Facebook

I have been on Facebook and Myspace for I can't remember how long. Facebook is my fav though. I like connecting with the people I knew in the past and the present. Best of all is adding all the new people I have met though the games, like Farmtown.

Summary

Ah the wonders of Learning 2.0, the initial excitement of learning new and wonderful technologies available to all who should seek them. The pictures of Flicker danced before my eyes; with mashups to fog my mind. Alas as the weeks pasted and nothing new was posted my excitement did wan. My fellow learners dropped off one by one. I asked myself why where the future tasks withheld. Is there more to be found on the wonderful web? Why yes there came at the end came Facebook with Farmtown and friends. I shall seek out new paths without blogging to guide my way. Venture on my fellow learners, venture on.

In other words Learning 2.0 has been interesting and at times fun. I wish that all of the links had been active from the beginning. Also, that we had learned about some of the different things that the customers are using, like accessing wi-fi.

Overdrive

I started downloading language cds for my fam several months ago. The very first download was a little confusing while I was waiting for something to happen; finally found the overdrive icon on my desktop...ding ding the light bulb went on. Where else would the tracks be but in the overdrive file. After that Overdrive has been a cake walk.

Podcast

I found a wonderful podcast for me about horses, not that I will ever listen to it. Nice part I didn't use bolglines; if you have gmail you get a podcast reader with it. Yay, one less thing to log in to. As for library related podcasts. There is a nifty podcast called Storynory that is free audio stories for kids. Stories like fairytales and original works. Currently there are about thiry casts.

Give this one a minute and a commercial will come to mind.

Youtube

Can be so much fun. That is if you can find what you are looking for. In other words they need advanced search options. Has Obama's followers proved it is a great site for reaching the younger masses.

Upcoming

Kind of like the Seven or the Inlander, but you can see some of what is happening for months in advance. The library could always post their events on this site or ones like it.

Web-Based Productivity

I love Thing #18. Being a Gmail fan I encountered their web doc and spreadsheets a few years ago and have been using them ever sence. It is so convenient to be able to send docs to people without making sure they have the some programs.

Wikis

I like the compilation of unique ideas and perspective that make up the information on wikis, as the provide a type of information that is not found in books. Out of the library wikis provided I like dthe book review wiki best.

Web 2.0/Library 2.0

What a difficult topic, we want technological with a human touch. The difficulty being in finding the balance. The only thing I could really say is that I think in the future the size of a library will not be determined by the buildings size, but by the size of the electronic collection you have. As far a balance, I'm glad we are not on the leading edge nor are we trailing the pack. You can see the difficulties that others have faces so as not to face them yourself; while still providing the tech that customers want.

I suppose if you like blogs this is a great tool. For me, the thing I thought most intesting was that one of the most popular sites contains tips on blogging. As for using the search tools I like the results for tag searching best.

Has anyone one else ever had it pointed out to them that one of the first "cell phones" was on Star Trek. Got to love the creativity of writers. After all they have spured science on for decades.

Rollyo and the Library Thing

Lets start with Rollyo. It is a interesting tool to save time if you use the same site often. More useful to me is a site called Power. com. If you have a Power account you can sign in and manage your different social networking sites at the same time. No more going to Myspace logging in to do your thing there, then going to Facebook and doing it all again.

Next, the Library Thing. Did they say free books, awesome! On Facebook they have a similar application called Weread. That is where I have listed my reads. Sadly to say no free books there.

Later I will blog about an image generator, for now I'm having too much fun playing with them.

RSS Feeds

I am now the proud owner of a brand new shiny mint condition Mustang Convertible. Opps Bloglines account. Simple to create and add links to, unless you try the copy/paste method. Three times and not the charm. My favorite link is to the Get Fuzzy comic strip. Other than that I have found that I really like the pictures the the RSS feeds take out :( .



I find that the hardest part of Learning 2.0 is remembering the log on information for the different sites. Even my e-mail address is now getting confused.

Oh, by the way I like the LeighRSS Directory for finding more RSS Feeds. You can search by keyword or (my favorite) browse by subject. Although the feeds I tag were to sites I visit often.

Flickr Fun

Ok, I 'm not new to the world of uploading photos. My prefered program has always been webshots, but now I am sold on flickr. It has been so much fun exploring all of the options to be found on flickr and picnik. My favorite features (for now) are the map and the flickr toys. Thank you to everyone who helped me figure out what a mashup was.
